The National Park Service says summer heat at Big Bend National Park begins in May, with the desert floor usually well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit by late morning and the Chisos Mountains 10 to 15 degrees cooler. Read each listing's start and end dates, compare them with the local climate, and review the National Weather Service's heat safety guidance if your assignment runs through summer.
Paid jobs and volunteer roles are structured differently. Texas Parks and Wildlife describes its park hosts as volunteers who assist visitors and support park operations, and says each park manages its own host calendar. It says hosts serve a minimum of one month and a maximum of six months, that parks provide an RV site with water and electrical hookups (many also have sewer) in exchange for volunteer service, and that hosts should review the posting and talk with the park's host coordinator before accepting.
