On December 5th from 9am-12pm, Big Thicket National Preserve staff and volunteers will be planting native plants to support the forest biodiversity and habitats of the Big Sandy Creek Unit. The exact location of this restoration event is still being determined and will be shared with registered participants when available.
Informational packets will be sent out to all registered volunteers prior to the event that will give planting location and most updated logistical information. Snacks and lunch will be provided.
Volunteers must be able to hike back and forth from the planting site after parking their personal vehicle. Volunteers will additionally hike across uneven terrain to complete the planting.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and long-sleeved shirts, and to bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen. Park staff will supply all necessary tools and safety equipment for the event.
If inclement weather is forecast, the makeup date for this event will be the following Saturday on December 12th. If you have any questions, please contact Nathan Pattee at 409-554-9027.
