Benbrook Lake Day Use Park Hosts

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers at Benbrook Lake is seeking Day Use Park Host volunteers in Fort Worth, Texas. Benbrook Lake is a flood control, water supply, and recreation project that provides outdoor opportunities for the surrounding community. Park Host volunteers serve as an important role helping around the parks. The primary duty of the Day Use Park Host Volunteer position is to ensure the parks are in the best possible condition, provide visitor assistance to park visitors while conducting routine patrols of the park using their personal vehicle, and reporting park issues to the park rangers. Park hosts will open the park at 6AM and close the park at 9PM. Closing the park requires all park patrons to be absent from the day use area. Park Hosts will provide information regarding the lake and assist visitors. Volunteers are required to keep their designated gatehouse clean and tidy of mess and free of clutter. Secondary duties include, but are not limited to, perform light maintenance and custodial duties as needed for park facilities and grounds and additional park projects and duties as assigned. All volunteers and anyone 18 years of age or older physically living with the volunteer must submit to a Background Check. Only individuals who can pass the Background Check will be accepted as Park Host volunteers and/or allowed to live onsite within the campground. All Park Hosts are required to live on-site on the designated host campsite and must provide their own RV and transportation. The Park Hosts will provide a minimum of 20 service hours a week (80 service hours a month) per individual in exchange for their campsite, see Additional Requirements for more information. Volunteer service days are rendered four days on four days off. Schedules vary to include weekdays, weekends, and holidays as scheduled by the Volunteer Coordinator. Key Responsibilities:

Visitor Services: Greet visitors and provide information about Benbrook Lake, recreational opportunities, park rules, and America the Beautiful Passes.

Public Relations: Promote a welcoming and professional atmosphere while addressing visitors’ questions or concerns.

Resource Protection: Encourage compliance with park rules and help promote stewardship of public lands.

Other:

Park Host patrol the park to monitor visitor safety and park conditions, report issues to appropriate park staff. They will perform light maintenance and custodial duties as needed. Park Hosts will be required to open and close gates of the park at designated times daily. Volunteers will be required to make random patrol passes through the park to ensure Title 36 is followed by visitors. Park Host may perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

Must have reliable self-provided transportation from park to the lake office. Vehicle and camping unit must be fully legal, up to date on registration and insurance in compliance with all applicable state/local laws.

Friendly, professional demeanor with strong customer service and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and interact with a diverse group of visitors.

Basic computer skills preferred.

Experience in customer service, retail, or office settings is helpful but not required.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work in a public-facing environment.

Willingness to learn federal pass programs and Corps of Engineers policies.
