Public Lands Volunteer Jobs 2026

What are public lands volunteer jobs? Public lands volunteer jobs are unpaid host positions at federal agencies including BLM, U.S. Forest Service, Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, and Fish & Wildlife Service. Volunteers receive a free campsite and sometimes stipends in exchange for 24–40 hours of weekly service.

Public lands volunteer jobs put you on the most spectacular terrain in America — and they're open to anyone with a reliable RV and a willingness to serve. Federal land management agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Forest Service, Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, rely on volunteer hosts to staff thousands of campgrounds, trailheads, and recreation areas across the country.

As a public lands volunteer, you don't receive a paycheck, but your compensation is substantial in other ways. Many positions may include a free RV campsite for the duration of your service; hookups vary by site — some offer partial or full hookups, others have none. Many agencies also provide a small daily stipend, free entrance passes (including the America the Beautiful pass), reimbursed propane, and access to agency facilities and training resources.

Positions range from remote dispersed sites on BLM land with no hookups to fully developed campgrounds in busy national forests with electric, water, and sewer. Browse by agency using the related pages, or sign up for alerts to be notified when new positions open in your target region.
