South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism says the state park system covers over 90,000 acres, from Blue Ridge Mountain peaks to inland lakes, the Midlands sand hills, and barrier islands along the coast. Choose the part of the state first, because mountain, lake, and coastal parks differ in setting and season. On the coast, the National Weather Service says the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30.
South Carolina State Parks runs its host program through the Volunteers in Parks program, and says hosts are used only at parks where the regional manager has determined a host will serve a genuine need. Each park directs its own volunteer program, applicants submit the application to the park or parks they want, and a personal interview is usually scheduled. The program page lists parks by season, including mountain, lake, and coastal parks, which is a list of host opportunities and not a promise of a vacancy. It does not describe RV sites or hookups, so ask the park.
South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism lists temporary and seasonal positions such as park attendants, assistant rangers, interpreters, tour leaders, maintenance, and lifeguards, and says waterfront staff need lifesaving, CPR, and first aid certifications.
