The volunteer performs a variety of visitor services at two primary locations: Visitor Center, and the McLean House. Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Opening and closing historic structures and providing low-level security
• Operating the park’s movie.
• Operating the Visitor Center providing:
• Park Orientation
• Interpretation of closing events of the Civil War at Appomattox and elsewhere
• General information and supplying informational material about park and surrounding area.
• Giving interpretative programs about the historical events associated with Appomattox Court House.
• If desired after appropriate experience in the field and demonstrating necessary knowledge, passing a test, proven public speaking skills and approved, a volunteer may perform the following optional duties:
• Give formally structured talks and tours
• Aid in research undertaken by park staff to enhance formal programs
• Surrender events that occurred there
• The house, the family, and village
