Nestled in the beautiful Santa Cruz River Valley, just 45 minutes south of Tucson, Tumacácori National Historical Park invites you to spend the season immersed in the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Sonoran Desert.

As a Natural Resources Residential (RV) Volunteer, you’ll enjoy a peaceful site with full hookups in a scenic setting while playing an important role in preserving and sharing the stories of this Spanish colonial mission village, Indigenous heritage, and the cultural crossroads that define the region. It's a meaningful way to spend your season—surrounded by history, nature, and community.

Volunteer Season & Commitment

Our peak season runs from December through April, but volunteer assistance is welcomed year-round. We are currently seeking volunteers for a minimum of 3 months and up to 6 months beginning in October, 2026. Both individuals and couples are encouraged to apply (each person must submit a separate application). In exchange for a full-hookup RV site (30-amp electric, water, and sewer), volunteers must commit to at least 32 hours per week for an individual or 24 hours per person per week for a couple. A washer and dryer are available near the RV pads.

Please note:

• No pets are allowed
• Volunteer's personal property must be self-contained on designated RV pad
• Travel trailers may not exceed 28 feet in length
• Volunteers must have reliable personal transportation
• Volunteer uniforms are provided and required
• Weekend and holiday service is expected
• Propane is not provided
• Cell signal varies by carrier; internet is not provided. Most volunteers use personal hotspots.

Local Amenities

Groceries and gas are available 4–5 miles away in Tubac. Additional services can be found in Rio Rico, about 8.5 miles from the park. Tucson is a 45-minute drive and offers full amenities.

Volunteer Opportunities

We offer a variety of service roles depending on your skills and interests. You may serve in one or more of the following areas:

• Natural Resources & Garden Assistance
  • Care for gardens and orchard
  • Assist with a variety of survey and monitoring efforts
  • Trail roving and light maintenance
  • Invasive species monitoring
  • Assist with collecting and reviewing trail camera footage
• Roving and Informal Interpretation
  • Share park information informally with visitors on the grounds
  • Learn and communicate key stories, features, and answers to frequently asked questions
