The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area is seeking Mississippi River Visitor Center Assistants! Visitor center assistants are at the frontline of interaction between visitors and the park, helping to provide positive experiences for visitors of our park.


What You'll Do:

Working alongside a National Park Service ranger, Visitor Center Assistants:


  • Answer questions about the park while staffing the front desk
  • Distribute park passes to eligible visitors
  • Facilitate the Junior Ranger program

When:

  • Shifts are available year-round Tuesday through Sunday, with the greatest need on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Shifts are 3.5-hours long and are available 10am -1:30pm or 1pm to 4:30pm
  • We prefer candidates who can commit to a weekly shift but can work with you to accommodate a more flexible schedule.

Where: The Mississippi River Visitor Center is in the lobby of the Science Museum of Minnesota, located at 120 West Kellogg Blvd. in Saint Paul.


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be familiar with the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area and have a desire to share knowledge with others
  • Must have at least 10 hours of existing volunteer service with the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area
  • Upon selection, must successfully complete a federal background investigation
