Fort Peck Interpretive Center Host

·        This volunteer position welcomes visitors to the Fort Peck Interpretive Center and assists with youth activities. Built in 2005, this state-of-the-art museum showcases the history of building Fort Peck Dam. A full-scale model of Montana’s Tyrannosaurus rex and seven full skeletal casts reveal the fossils found nearby. A large panorama displays the modern wildlife found on the refuge surrounding the reservoir. Live amphibians, an observation bee hive and two huge fish aquariums are also key attractions.

·        Duties at the Visitor Center would include the following. Greeting visitors to the museum. Orienting visitors to the area, sharing resources relevant to their interests. May assist with development of weekly youth activities. Cleaning exhibits and monitoring overall facility. Tending and repairing outdoor irrigation system, pollinator garden, minor landscaping. May assist with social media posts, group tour orientations, special events.

·        Experience in customer service, education, youth camps, are helpful. Volunteers must enjoy working with and assisting people.

·        Hosts are provided full hookups, free laundry and mileage reimbursement to reach Fort Peck. Camp site is located in Downstream Campground. Work schedule ensures Interpretive Center is open from 9:00a to 4:00p Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, from Memorial Day weekend through end of September including holidays (about 30 hours/week through the summer).

·        On your days off you are welcome to leave the area and explore all the great places that the upper Great Plains has to offer. There are more than a dozen National Parks or Historic Sites within a day’s drive of Fort Peck and many more historical and other places of interest.

·        Facilities in or near Fort Peck include a post office, church, live theatre, hotel, restaurants, gas station, marina, and credit union. Glasgow, Montana, is nearby with a population of roughly 3,200. It is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Fort Peck. Glasgow has grocery stores, hardware stores, retail, movie theater, brewery. Summer temperature highs are usually in the 80s-90s during the day and 50s-60s at night.
