Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Park Ranger (I) volunteer to run the Visitor Center front desk! Shifts are bi-weekly on Saturdays from 10:00 am-4:00 pm.
Purpose:
The Assistant Park Ranger (I) is the face of Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. The Assistant Park Ranger (I) works at the front desk and shares information with visitors about Refuge birds, wildlife, history, and recreational opportunities. They also answer questions about other Utah attractions. Training and information about the Refuge is provided.

Qualifications:
· Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
· Have an interest in natural resources and conservation.
· Must have a positive attitude.
Requirements:
· Complete necessary administrative paperwork (Volunteer Service Agreement, Position Description, Job Hazard Analysis, etc.).
· Wear provided volunteer uniform while performing duties.
· Report observed violations to appropriate staff. Do not perform law enforcement duties.
· Represent the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in a professional manner.
· Record volunteer hours in binder at the Front Desk.
· May be required to undergo a background investigation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Complete training with staff member on front desk procedures. This will include opening/closing procedures, guidance on how to answer frequently asked visitor questions, information regarding the purpose of the Refuge as well as its cultural and natural history.
· Open and Close the Visitor Center
· Greet visitors at the Visitor Center.
· Provide directions to different locations and recreational sites on the Refuge.
· Recommend interpretation materials (such as brochures) for visitors.
· Help visitors identify wildlife and plants, if able. Otherwise direct them to appropriate learning materials or to staff members.
· Answer questions over the phone on behalf of the Refuge.
· Keep Refuge maps and brochures stocked and organized in the brochure boxes and at the desk.
· Make sure the Visitor Center is presentable and inviting to the public.
· Record your volunteer hours at the end of each shift.
· Inspire visitors to be excited about the common and the rare wildlife that we have on the Refuge.
Hours and Time Commitment:
Saturdays bi-weekly from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. We are closed for all Federal Holidays.

There are no reimbursements offered for this position. Uniforms are provided.
