   Are you traveling cross country and interested in volunteering with the National Park Service? Or are you looking to immerse yourself in the homesteading narrative and help carry the legacy it holds? Here at Homestead National Historical Park, we are committed to hosting an RV individual volunteer or couple that would like to further our park’s goals and success. You will be investing your time in grounds management contributing to a range of tasks that relate to the upkeep of facilities, carpentry, fences, and carcass management.


Major Duties:

  • Trash and litter removal
  • Removal of debris and branches from park grounds
  • Maintaining buildings’ facilities

Work Schedule:

If you are an individual volunteer, we require 32 hours of volunteer work spread out over four days of the week. If you are volunteering as a couple, each individual will work 24 hours per week spread out over three days.


Qualifications/Certifications:

  • Ability to use hand power tools or willingness to learn
  • Carpentry duties or willingness to learn
  • First Aid and CPR (provided, if needed)

Work Environment:

Volunteer(s) will spend a portion of the position outside in various weather conditions, as needed for facilities management duties.

Job hazards include, but are not limited to:

  • Exposure to chemicals
  • Injury due to improper use of tools

Benefits:

  • RV hookup with electricity and water. Note: No bathroom facilities on-site.
  • Living at a national park and walking distance from a restored prairie
