Main Goal of Position:
The volunteers at Pictured Rocks Visitor Centers are a key component to PIRO’s mission of connecting visitors to park resources. The goal through this position focuses on providing opportunities for volunteers to contribute their time and effort towards projects that are personally fulfilling and help the park achieve division, park, and National Park Service goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with NPS staff and Eastern National bookstore staff to operate the visitor center information desk, to include opening & closing procedures, selling park passes, covering store sales, and using point of sale systems.
- Provide frontline visitor services, including answering routine questions, offering safety information, distributing maps and materials, operating audiovisual technology, and maintaining visitor counts.
- Assist with educational and interpretive programs, including the Junior Ranger Program and historical orientation for visitors.
- Conduct Park closing procedures when needed, including securing facilities.
- Maintain strong customer service, learn park history, and meet requirements such as age minimum requirement, possessing a valid driver’s license, and ability to pass a background investigation.
- A full-hookup RV spot will be provided within park boundaries. Volunteer must provide their own RV or camper.
