Living History Volunteer

Experience 19th and 20th Century life while providing interpretive opportunities to those visiting the Memorial. Provide demonstrations about period topics such as political situation surrounding Chamizal and its resolution, culture of the area, everyday struggles of residents, and answer questions about said topics. Have fun while providing service.

Duties:

• Greet park visitors

• Orient and inform park visitors about Chamizal history, events, and programs

• Answer visitor questions

• Wear period-correct 19th and 20th Century clothing

• Research Chamizal History

• Provide demonstration/monologue for the visiting public about period topics (such as: political situation surrounding Chamizal, culture of the area, everyday struggles of residents, women’s life, and others!)

Recommended Time Commitment:

Volunteers actively and on scheduled basis. Suggested commitments include: 20 hours training and rehearsal, 2-4 hours for special events.

Basic Training Required:

• Orientation to Chamizal National Memorial

• Providing Good Customer Service

• Informal Interpretation/Foundations of Interpretation

• Living History Volunteer Orientation to Chamizal National Memorial

• Orientation to period appropriate Clothing and Accoutrements for Men, Women, and Children

• Many others optional!

Knowledge/Skills Desired:

• Good communication/interpersonal skills

• Reliability

• Comfortable speaking in front of groups 

• Should enjoy borderlands history or desire to learn more about it

• Willingness to learn about Chamizal National Memorial and other historic locales.

• Willingness to be a team player and work with others.
