The volunteer will assist rangers on public canoe and/or kayak interpretative programs throughout the summer. Volunteers will be expected to facilitate learning opportunities for paddlers of different ages and skill levels. The park will provide training to volunteers and all necessary equipment. Additionally, the volunteer will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Provides safety and support during the program.
- Follow verbal and written instructions from the ranger.
- Assist with the setup of equipment before each paddle program: prep life vests, paddles, sweep boat ramp, and unlock the boats.
- Assists participants with fitting life vests, paddles, and teaching of basic paddling techniques.
- Serve as the trip's "sweep," maintaining pace and assisting participants who made need assistance paddling.
- Alerting the lead ranger to potential risks or issues, assisting in emergencies, and assisting visitors to shore or back to the boat ramp during the trip if necessary.
- Serve as a source of education and interpretive knowledge for the trip.
