Purpose:
We are looking for volunteers to assist our Park Rangers in creating memorable experiences for all of our visitors and transform them into stewards of their national parks.
Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Work alongside Park Rangers to staff the visitor center information desk
· Welcome visitors, orient them to the park, and get them excited to get out and explore
· Educate visitors about the park’s rich historic, natural, and cultural resources
· Promote the Junior Ranger program to families and swear in new Junior Rangers
· Inform visitors of park rules and regulations, while stressing the importance of protecting the park’s resources and ensuring the safety of all visitors
· Other duties as assigned and agreed upon by the volunteer
· For those who are interested, there may be opportunities to conduct small talks/programs for visitors on various historic topics
Work Location(s): Jamestown Visitor Center, Yorktown Visitor Center
Time Commitment: At least one 4-hour shift per week (9-1 or 1-5)
Current Open Slots as of September 2026:
Jamestown: Tuesday Afternoons, Saturday Afternoons
Yorktown: No current open slots
Uniform: Uniform Required (Volunteer polo shirts, rain jacket, and fleece jacket provided)
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired:
· Enjoys working on a team of Park Rangers and fellow volunteers
· Experience working with the public/public speaking is preferred
· An interest in both learning history and sharing history with visitors is preferred
· Volunteer will be required to work indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather
· Must follow all guidelines, rules, and regulations to make safety a priority
· Must possess reliable transportation to and from the park
· Must be able to work with culturally, socially, and economically diverse people
