Volunteer in Historic Glen Haven

Volunteering in Glen Haven offers a unique opportunity to help bring history to life at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Volunteers welcome visitors, share stories of the past, and help ensure smooth daily operations across historic buildings and museums. Whether you enjoy engaging with the public, demonstrating historic skills, or working in a dynamic historic setting, there is a rewarding role for you in Glen Haven.

*These positions are meant for people local to the area surrounding Sleeping Bear Dunes as housing is not included.

Time commitment:

• At least 1 shift per week (Preferred)
• Shifts are 10:30-2:15 or 2:00-5:30
• The season runs from late May through mid-October; volunteers are not required to be available for the entire season.

Volunteer opportunities include:

• Maritime Museum Docent – Share the maritime history of Sleeping Bear Dunes.
• Cannery Museum Docent – Greet visitors and deliver highlight of the cannery history and maritime boats.
• D.H. Day (General Store) Museum Docent –Interpret exhibits focused on commerce, community, and daily life in historic Glen Haven.
• Floater Volunteer – Assist with daily operations across multiple Glen Haven locations by helping visitors, assisting rangers with projects, and maintaining clean, welcoming public spaces both indoors and outdoors.
