Do you have a passion of learning and sharing knowledge with the public? Tumacácori National Historical Park is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our team for the upcoming winter season as docents. Volunteers will work alongside interpretive staff to research and share with visitors the stories of this historic Spanish colonial mission village, Indigenous heritage, and the cultural crossroads that occurred in this region. Ideally, the volunteer would work for at least 4 hours per day for a minimum of 1 day per week.

  • Passion to learn and share knowledge with the public
  • Knowledge of the cultural and natural history of the park and neighboring regions
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups

Interpretive tours will primarily be held at the Tumacácori Mission church and grounds. Depending on individual interest, docents may also provide tours to other areas of the park, including the historic orchard, Santa Cruz River, Anza Trail, and the park's two remote sites, Missions Calabazas and Guevavi. All tours are carefully researched, accurate, organized, and follow current NPS standards and guidelines for interpretive technique. You may also rove the grounds to provide information, orientation, and informal interpretation.

Duties Include:

  • Welcome and greet visitors with enthusiasm and respect
  • Learn and retain relevant information to interpretive resources
  • Report to park staff of any incidents involving visitors, staff, and resources
  • Work independently in public speaking and interacting with the public
  • Ability to stay standing for up to an hour while conversing with visitors, walking through the grounds and other park features, and in outside weather
