Please join Shenandoah National Park’s Volunteer Program staff for a special “Autumn Ash & Trash Bash” work session at Dickey Ridge Picnic Area to help get our high-use visitor areas ready for the busy fall season.

Volunteers will gather at 10am for a welcome briefing and orientation, divide into teams of at least three, teams will each get a set of tools and supplies, and will spend approximately 3 hours on some very important maintenance tasks: removing ash from park designated fire rings and grills, disassembling visitor-made fire pits, and picking up trash. We will take a 30-minute lunch break at 12pm and offer other breaks as needed throughout the workday.

Volunteers should pack a lunch and water bottle, as well as wear long pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Volunteers do not need any special skills or equipment. A Shenandoah National Park volunteer leader will provide guidance as well as all supplies and PPE needed.

After applying, volunteers will receive an email that their application has been tentatively accepted and should then expect to receive an email with more details within ten days of the scheduled event date.
