National Forest Headquarters Front Desk Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed to support the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest Headquarters front desk in Roanoke, VA.
Join our team and help make a difference in how visitors experience the forest! We’re looking for enthusiastic, customer‑focused volunteers who enjoy engaging with the public and being part of a mission‑driven workplace. As a front desk volunteer, you’ll greet visitors with a warm welcome, answer phone calls, share helpful information about forest resources, and direct guests to staff who can assist with specific needs. You’ll also guide visitors to online locations where maps and brochures can be downloaded or purchased. Your presence at the front desk helps create a positive first impression and ensures every visitor feels supported and informed.
This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy helping others, building community connections, and contributing to the stewardship of public lands. Multiple volunteer openings are available to help provide front desk coverage from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Reimbursements for certain approved costs associated with volunteering may be available, helping ensure that you can participate with minimal or no personal expense.
