FoLAR Great LA River Clean Up 10/10/2026

Opportunity Description:

For 35 years, Angelenos have come together to care for the Los Angeles River through the Great LA River CleanUp. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into the one of the largest urban river cleanups in the country, powered by thousands of volunteers each year. In 2026, CleanUp will span four sites across two weekends, giving everyone a chance to pitch in. Each site is a living part of the River’s ecosystem and picking up trash there helps to restore habitat, improve water quality, and protect local wildlife that depend on the River.

The CleanUp on October 10th will take place within the Sepulveda Dam basin. Join us at the Sepulveda Basin Athletic Complex, where wide fields meet one of the most important natural stretches of the River. This soft-bottom reach is home to tall willows, herons, egrets, and countless smaller species that depend on the Basin’s wetlands. Working together, we’ll clear trash and protect this unique urban refuge, helping ensure that the River’s wildlife and the communities who come here to play, walk, and gather can share a cleaner, healthier space. We will clean up the area and remove litter before it enters the LA River, which flows into the Pacific Ocean. We'll remove litter from the parking lot, bike path, and river embankment on both sides of the River.

Parking:

There is ample parking in the parking lot by the soccer fields and along Balboa Blvd.

What to Bring:

*Refillable water bottle - carry it in a bag or with a carabiner to keep your hands free

*Sunscreen and hat

*Sturdy, closed-toe shoes

*Lightweight long pants (recommended) - that can get dirty

*Lightweight long-sleeved shirt - that can get dirty
