Oxon Hill Farm Public Programs Interpreter and Educator

Help cultivate great experiences for visitors as a Public Programs Interpreter and Educator at Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm! You'll be part of the Visitor Services division, and your responsibilities will include: 

• Assisting with field trips and other group visits. 
• Leading talks and tours.  
• Tabling, greeting, speaking with guests, and providing information. 
• Roving the park to engage visitors. 
• Answering visitor questions and requests for directions. 
• Taking photos of the park. 
• Generating ideas for social media. 
• Learning best practices for interacting with farm animals to present them to visitors. 

Volunteer duties also extend to the Visitor Center, a critical aspect of park operations. You could perform tasks such as: 

• Handling cash and credit card purchases. 
• Opening cash register and other Visitor Center work. 
• Restocking and recording inventory. 
• Answering phone calls. 
• Accurately recording visitor totals at the end of the day. 
• Help with opening and closing chores (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, tidying up). 

Given the nature of this work, you will take part in mandatory training and orientation, as well as undergo a background check and provide two professional references. Volunteers should expect to stand and walk for long periods, including on stairs, gravel trails, wooden boardwalks, and in varying weather. Light lifting such as putting up tents, tables and chairs, will also occur. Park Guide and Volunteer Manager Lisa Berray (lisa_berray@nps.gov) will be your supervisor and main point of contact. 

Applicants for this position must be at least 18 years old and have skills/knowledge in public speaking, basic math, basic phone use, and directional awareness. You will not need to use any of your personal equipment, including vehicles, and all supplies will be provided. No reimbursements are authorized for this role.
