Zion National Park - Invasive Plant Removal Event

Join the Zion National Park Invasive Plant Crew in celebration of the 110th birthday of the National Park Service by removing Russian Thistle (tumbleweeds) from the newly renovated South Campground!

When: Tuesday, August 25 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. Please arrive between 7:45 am - 8:30 am to complete your volunteer registration for the project.

Where: Meet at the entrance building in South Campground of Zion National Park. (Take the second right from after going through the South Entrance. Turn right into the South Campground). The project will occur in South Campground.

How to Enter the Park: There will be no park entrance fees on August 25 for the National Park Service's birthday. Enter the park through any entrance station.

Where to Park: Limited parking is available at the entrance to South Campground. Additional parking is located behind the nearby Nature Center. Attendees can also walk or bike on the Pa'rus Trail from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center/the pedestrian River Entrance. Attendees can also walk from the Human History Museum parking lot on the Pa'rus Trail.

What to Bring: Russian Thistle is a very spiny plant. Please wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, long sleeve shirts. Bring snacks and a reusable water bottle. Temperatures may be near or over 100 degrees. Cold water, shovels, and gloves will be provided.

Who is Able to Participate: Volunteers of all ages (over the age of 5) are eligible to participate. Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Individuals, families, or groups are eligible to participate.

All volunteers will be required to complete volunteer registration paperwork before project work can begin. Paperwork can be completed beforehand on Volunteer.gov or day-of on paper before the service project begins.
