Interpretive Volunteer Oct 2026-April 2027

Bryce Canyon National Park is looking for enthusiastic individuals or couples to volunteer at our visitor center with the interpretation division this winter. If you love connecting with people from around the globe, sharing your passion for nature, and spending your days surrounded by one of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes, this opportunity is for you.

Volunteers are needed October 2026 – early April 2027, with preference for those who can commit to 10 weeks or longer. A private room in shared housing is provided. RV’s are NOT possible during this time frame, due to extreme winter conditions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist visitors as they plan their park experience.
  • Share tips on hiking trails, ranger programs, road conditions, and general park orientation.
• Keep our visitor center running smoothly by helping with opening and closing procedures and maintaining a professional, inviting front desk area.
• Track visitor statistics and share feedback to help improve park operations.
• Make kids’ visits unforgettable by guiding them through the Junior Ranger activity book.
• Opportunities to provide formal or informal programming based on your interest and experience.

Training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Friendly, approachable, and energized by helping people from all backgrounds.
• Able to work independently and with a team composed of other volunteers and park staff.
• Comfortable speaking with the public for extended periods, answering repetitive questions with patience and professionalism.
• Able to convey safety and interpretive information clearly and confidently.
• Dependable and punctual, with advance notice for absences or schedule changes.
• Work a minimum of 32 hours per week, typically working four days on and three days off, during regular visitor center hours (8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., seven days a week). Work schedule will include weekends and holidays.

Location

Perched between 8,000 and 9,100 feet in elevation, Bryce Canyon transforms into a peaceful winter wonderland from October through April. Expect chilly nights, snowy days, and stunning, crowd-free views of the park’s iconic red rock hoodoos blanketed in snow. While temperatures often dip below freezing—especially December through February—the beauty of Bryce in winter is unlike anywhere else.

Those with heart or respiratory concerns should consider the high elevation before applying.

Nearby, you’ll have endless opportunities to explore the wilds of southern Utah. Spend your time off hiking or sightseeing in Dixie National Forest, Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument, Kodachrome Basin State Park (24 miles), Cedar Breaks National Monument (64 miles), Zion National Park (74 miles), and Capitol Reef National Park (114 miles).

Area Info

Bryce Canyon National Park’s gateway community, Bryce Canyon City, is just two miles from the park. Year-round amenities include a small grocery store, restaurants, hotels, a post office, and a recreation center. Larger grocery and medical services can be found in Tropic (20 miles) and Panguitch (25 miles, with a clinic and ER). For additional shopping, entertainment, and healthcare, Cedar City (90 miles) and Richfield (100 miles) are your nearest hubs.
