Historic Weekend Volunteer

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is seeking volunteers with a passion for history and education. Historic weapons demonstrations are a highlight of operations, transporting visitors throughout the history of the United States. Education of the public on period-accurate clothing and weapons provides an experience for visitors to learn about the experiences of military personnel during these time periods. The Historic Weapons volunteer will participate in demonstrations of firing muskets, rifles, or the site’s carronade. 

Position Overview: 

• Providing musket and carronade demonstrations to visitors
• Providing historical information about the soldiers, and the weapons associated with the wars of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
• Following prescribed interpretive techniques and conducting interpretive programs 
• Cleaning and maintaining weapons, continue drilling and assist in training other volunteers in the Duane Drill and the von Steuben drill. 
• Static Display for 19th and 20th century weapons.

Qualifications: 

• Ability to follow all NPS standards and Historic Weapons policy when participating in National Park Service historic weapons demonstrations 
• Must be 18 years of age or older
