Trail Maintenance Volunteer

White Sands National Park is seeking dedicated volunteers to patrol and maintain the park's trails. Trail maintenance volunteers will monitor and report trail conditions, dig up fallen trail markers, install new trail markers, remove obsolete trail markers, pick up litter, and share information about points of interest and wayfinding with visitors. 

The required time will be approximately from 7:00 am - 11:00 am during the summer. The volunteer will be expected to work around once a week, and the hours will shift as we transition out of the summer months. This will be a recurring role, so you must be able to commute to the park consistently. Housing is not provided as part of this volunteer opportunity.

The selected volunteer will be authorized to use the necessary hand tools (i.e., shovels, post hole diggers), power tools (i.e., auger) and government vehicles to perform assigned duties. Hand tools and training for trail maintenance will be provided. Safe work practices are essential, and volunteers will be required to follow OSHA safe work practices guidelines and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
