Join us on Saturday, September 26 at 8am to celebrate National Public Lands Day in the unique landscape of Joshua Tree National Park! Volunteers will perform trail maintenance near Black Rock Campground by installing fencing, lining a trail with rocks, and installing vertical mulch to close social trails. Training and supervision will be provided by a project leader. This work will preserve the beauty and accessibility of the park's trails!


Project details:

Date - Saturday, 9/26

Start time - 8am

Approximate end time - 2pm

Meeting location: Black Rock Nature Center in Yucca Valley


Activities include:

  • Working outdoors in changing weather
  • Hiking on uneven terrain
  • Lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds for short distances
  • Repeated bending
  • Using hand tools


Volunteers must be able to:

  • Live within 2 hours of the park
  • Provide their own transportation to and from work sites 
  • Be able to:
    • Safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Safely hike 2 miles within 6 hours
    • Stand for 6 hours
    • Follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment to avoid injuries


Participation is limited, so volunteers must register for the project beforehand. See you on the trail!
