Interpretation Volunteer

This position supports the National Park Service by helping visitors connect with the natural, cultural, and historical significance of Canaveral National Seashore. Volunteers share their knowledge and enthusiasm through educational programs, guided walks, talks, and informal visitor interactions. This role helps enhance visitor understanding of the park's resources while supporting the park's interpretive and educational mission.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist park staff and volunteers in presenting educational and interpretive programs to visitors.
• Share information about the park's significant natural, cultural, historical, and environmental resources.
• Help develop and present programs that support the park's interpretive themes and educational goals.
• Provide accurate information and answer visitor questions in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner.
• Lead guided walks, talks, presentations, or demonstrations in areas where the volunteer has subject matter expertise.
• Engage with individuals, families, and organized groups to foster appreciation and stewardship of park resources.
• Serve as a positive ambassador for the National Park Service and Canaveral National Seashore.

Duties and Activities

• Present educational programs and interpretive talks for visitors.
• Conduct guided walks or informal discussions on topics related to the volunteer's knowledge, experience, or expertise.
• Provide orientation and information about park resources, recreational opportunities, and visitor services.
• Interact with visitor groups typically ranging from 1 to 20 participants per program.
• Assist with special events, educational outreach, and other interpretive activities as needed.
• Support the park's mission by promoting visitor understanding, enjoyment, and protection of park resources.

• Interest in sharing knowledge and engaging with the public.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse audiences.
• Expertise or experience in a relevant subject area such as natural history, cultural history, ecology, wildlife, conservation, fishing, astronomy, local history, or related fields is highly desirable.
