Position Description:
Role Overview & General Campground Duties
The Camp Host(s) will provide general information and customer service to registered campers and park customers by answering general questions about the campground. Core campground responsibilities include greeting incoming guests, performing check-in and check-out procedures for registered campers, issuing camping tags, answering visitor inquiries, and working closely with fellow volunteers, park staff, and Park Rangers. Because host duties involve significant active physical labor; such as grounds maintenance, facility upkeep, and walking park areas, volunteers must be in good physical condition to safely and effectively carry out their daily assignments.
Veteran Hall Event Center Operations & Scheduling
The Camp Host holds sole responsibility for the administrative coordination and operational maintenance of the Veteran Hall Event Center. The schedule for the event center operates on an "as-reserved" basis, requiring the host to remain accessible and on-call for the entire duration of each scheduled reservation. While scheduling flexibility is managed at the host's discretion in close consultation with Park Rangers, volunteers are required to fulfill a minimum of 80 hours of volunteer service per month. Administrative duties include managing event center reservations by accurately checking visitors in and out through the R1S system.
The host is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, grounds, and safety of the event center and surrounding recreation areas. Following each reservation, the host thoroughly cleans, disinfects, restocks the hall interior and restrooms, stows tables and chairs, inspects the facility for damage to report to Rangers, and washes or blows clean exterior porches, walkways, and walls before guest arrivals. Exterior groundskeeping requires maintaining grass between 1.5 and 3 inches, string trimming around obstacles, washing outdoor tables, and clearing litter, sticks, pine straw, and cigarette butts from the parking lot, grounds, campsites, and roadways. Additionally, hosts support the park's Water Safety Program by monitoring life-jacket loaner stations and recording public safety contacts, while assisting maintenance crews and Park Rangers with seasonal initiatives and special lake projects as assigned.
Background Checks: All volunteers and anyone, physically living with the volunteer (18 years of age and older) must submit to a Background Check. Only individuals who can pass the Background Check will be accepted as Campground Host volunteers and/or allowed to live onsite within the campground.
Host Site and Schedule: Campground Host volunteers will provide 20 service hours a week (80 service hours a month) per individual in exchange for their campsite. Additionally, no more than 4 pets are allowed per camp host site. Camp host site is a 20’x50’ covered concrete pad with full hookup and 50 Amp breaker. It is encouraged that Campground Host Volunteers at a park work together to create their own schedule. Volunteer service days are rendered seven days a week and on Holidays. Schedules vary from park to park. For more information on schedules, please contact the Lake POC.
