2027 Spring Meriwether Lewis Campground Host

History can be just steps away! The Meriwether Lewis Campground on the Natchez Trace Parkway is recruiting campground hosts for our peak camping season. This host posting is for the first of March to the end of May, 2027. Hosting positions for the remainder of the year are being flown separately; please submit ONLY the application for the time period(s) that you are available to host. Nestled in a serene setting, this hidden gem offers a peaceful retreat for visitors. We staff the campground with a host from the first of March 2026 to the end of November 2026. We do not have hosts during the months of December through February. The host must commit to 8 hours per day, Friday through Monday (4 days per week), every week for a minimum of 3 months. A minimum of 32 hours per week (or 24 hours per person for a couple) is required for 3 months. A minimum of 3 months is required, but opportunities may be available for up to 6 months. Couples wishing to apply should complete an application for each person.

Housing:

An on-site RV pad with hookups (water, sewer, electric) is available. The RV must have its own restroom and shower.

Hosts will:

• Campground host for the 31 site of the Meriwether Lewis Campground.
• Work consists of 32 hours a week, including weekends.
• Operate NPS vehicles including a golf cart, pickup truck, etc. A valid state driver's license is required.
• Welcome visitors to the campground.
• Provide information about rules, park resources, points of interest, park history, scheduled interpretive programs, and relevant safety information.
• Distribute park brochures, maps, site bulletins, and other information materials as needed.
• Monitor the campground mornings and evenings to obtain a count of campers, inspect the campground, and provide education about campground rules.
• Engage in various light campground maintenance duties as necessary, including fire pit cleaning and basic maintenance (you will not clean the restrooms).
• Respond to and report emergencies as appropriate.
• Complete forms including a daily visitor statistics log and timesheets.

Applicants must be able to:

• Provide their own camper (with restroom and shower) and means of transportation.
• Pass a federal background check.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse visitors.
• Live in remote/rural areas with limited amenities.
• Work well with staff and other volunteers.
• Work independently as necessary.
• Operate and communicate on park radio, with training.

Training and Equipment:

Park staff will provide training and support on host duties and will supply all the necessary equipment for the position. An electric golf cart will also be provided for campground roving duties.

Uniform:

Hosts are required to wear a volunteer uniform: shirts, hat, and jacket provided by the park; pants, closed-toe shoes, and a belt provided by the volunteer.
