Tucannon Campground Host - Summer 2026

Recreation Sites: Tucannon Guard Station, Lower Tucannon Campground, Panjab Campground, Panjab Overflow Campground, Ladybug Campground, Meadow Creek Off-Highway Vehicle Trailhead, Panjab Trailhead, Tucannon Trailhead, Numerous Dispersed Sites.

Host Site Amenities: Campsite with water and electricity hookups, fire ring and picnic table, located nearby the Tucannon Guard Station. There are no sewer hookups. RV dump, propane and fuels services available at Last Resort, which is 8 miles from the site. There is no internet service in Tucannon. There is a landline in the Tucannon Guard Station in the event of an emergency, and a handheld radio will be provided by the Forest Service. There is no phone or internet service at the Last Resort. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife work center near the Last Resort and Camp Wooten located near the Tucannon Campground both have phone service.

# of Sites: 41 campsites, including Guard Station. All campsites are dry sites for tents or RV camping, and trailheads are open for stock use.

# of Bathrooms: 9 vault toilets in total

Site Amenities: Two shelters, one large group site, fire rings and picnic tables at each site. Wilderness trailheads have feed managers (8), hitching rails (3) and garbage service. There are multiple Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife lakes and the Tucannon River located nearby for fishing.

Campground Operating Season: Tucannon Campground is open April 1 through November 15. The peak season is Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

Host Schedule: On duty 5 days per week. Prefer days off to be mid-week. Approximately 4-6 hours/day.

Host Duties: The volunteer will use their personal vehicle to conduct business; the Forest Service will provide all tools and supplies. Duties include the following and require light physical exertion:

·        Clean restrooms

·        Keep toilet paper stocked

·        Clean campsites (Remove excess ash and debris from fire rings, pick up trash at site, etc.)

·        Rake debris and remove vegetation from around fire rings to prevent fires from spreading

·        Remove any rope, nails, or other items that are tied to or embedded in trees

·        Periodically check information board and signs in the campground and report to Forest Service staff if they need maintenance or replacement

·        Keep roads clear of debris

·        Minor maintenance (pruning vegetation, painting, etc.)

·        Identify safety hazards at campgrounds and other facilities (i.e. broken tree limb, rotten table seat, etc.). 

·        Provide public and visitor information (answer visitor questions about the area, available activities/sights, rules)

·        Occupancy and fee compliance checks

·        Record keeping (number of hours worked/miles driven, which sites are occupied daily, personal reimbursements, etc.)

Host Reimbursements: 

·        $37.45/day for food

·        Mileage government rate ($.725/mile) associated with campground operations and maintenance.

·        Propane expenses with receipts

·        Sewage dump fees with receipts
