Visitor Services Volunteer

Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site is seeking volunteers to help create a welcoming and engaging experience for visitors. The site hosts approximately 45,000 guests each year. More information about the site can be found at Ulysses S Grant National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service).

This opportunity is ideal for students looking to build professional skills, retirees seeking a meaningful and social way to stay active, and park enthusiasts who are passionate about history and public service.

Volunteer responsibilities include:

• Greeting and orienting visitors
• Answering phones, transferring calls, and assisting with inquiries
• Making announcements in the visitor center (including tours and films)
• Assisting with gift shop sales and operating a cash register
• Helping maintain a clean and inviting Visitor Center and Museum
• Roving and providing informal interpretative experiences in Museum

Volunteers play an important role in connecting visitors to the site’s history and legacy while supporting daily operations. No prior experience is required—just a friendly attitude, reliability, and a willingness to help.

Time commitment: Most volunteers work one four-hour shift per week. Preference will be given to those available during any of the following times: Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
