Botany Volunteer - Payson Ranger District

Assist the Tonto National Forest Botanists by mapping rare plants and invasive species, pulling & treating weeds, assisting restoration efforts and collecting ecological monitoring data outdoors! Your participation will assist the Payson Ranger District in the conservation and protection of our natural resources. While you help, you’ll get to learn about the ecosystems that cover the state of Arizona & see rarely treaded sections of the forest.

Key duties

• using tools and gumption to pull weeds
• hike potential habitat sites
• learn plant ID skills
• use maps, compasses, and tablets
• monitor rare plant populations for health
• record field notes & learn how to read ecology plots
• seed collection & restoration activities

Safety Notes: Most of the sites will require walking on rough terrain and working in dry, hot, sunny conditions.
