Interpretation & Outdoor Recreation Volunteer – Redwood National and State Parks

Are you interested in being a spokesperson for the coast redwoods? Come on over and volunteer alongside park staff at any of our park visitor centers. Emphasis is placed on the Thomas Kuchel Visitor Center, Prairie Creek Visitor Center, and Hiouchi Visitor Center.

Redwood National and State Parks is seeking both part-time and full-time Interpretation Volunteers.

Some duties include:

• Contributing to the operation of the visitor center. This includes frontline orientation and information. This also looks like interpretation about the parks to diverse visitors.
• Handling cash and credit transactions for Redwood Parks Conservancy's merchandise.
• Performing daily visitor center opening/closing.
• Conducting park roves (You get to explore trails!) You will gather information about park resources and condition. When present, you will provide informal contacts with visitors.
• In addition, the volunteer may have the opportunity to assist with interpretive programming. This includes ranger-led forest walks through iconic redwood groves and more. Volunteers will occasionally get to work in a different visitor center.

Physical Requirements/Expectations:

• Applicants must be able to repeatedly lift loads of 25 lbs. and have sure footing on uneven and slick surfaces.
• The ideal candidates for this position are individuals with strong communication skills. Attention to detail is valued.
• Volunteers must possess good customer service skills.
• The ability to work cooperatively with cross-functional teams. 
• Ideally, volunteers will spend a minimum of 3 consecutive months. 6 months, if possible.

Note: RV/trailer site is provided with a minimum of 32+ hours of service per week. The site includes water, electricity, and sewer. If you are utilizing the RV/trailer site, you must have your own RV/trailer.
