Trail Rover (Local Opportunity)

Calling all passionate hikers in the Hot Springs community! If you love hiking the trails of West and Hot Springs Mountains and want to help people enjoy the nature of Hot Springs National Park, consider becoming a Trail Rover volunteer!

Time Commitment: Schedules are flexible based on volunteer availability and interest. A minimum of 4 hours per month is expected.

Duties: This volunteer will walk/hike/run various trails throughout the park periodically and provide information/answer questions of visitors they encounter. The volunteer will provide roving interpretation and orientation to visitors that our NPS staff may not be able to reach. The volunteer will keep an eye out for any unusual activity, dangerous trail conditions, etc. and report anything they encounter back to the volunteer supervisor, who will disseminate the information to the appropriate parties.

Hazards for this position include common outdoor trail hazards, such as slips, trips, and falls, and heat or cold-related illness. Proper PPE, such as high-visibility uniform items and protective head gear will be issued to each volunteer. Other PPE, such as sturdy shoes, pants, hiking poles are the responsibility of the volunteer.

Goal: The goal of this volunteer position is to provide roving orientation and interpretation about Hot Springs National Park. Trail roving volunteers are the eyes and ears of the park, making sure trails are safe and enjoyable for park visitors.

Qualifications: Trail Rovers must be willing and able to walk or hike on any of the park’s 26 miles of trail. These volunteers must also be comfortable talking to visitors and giving accurate, timely information about the park.
