Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is looking for new recruits for our Small Arms and Artillery Crew! If you're interested in learning about historic firearms and bringing history to life, consider joining out Historic Weapons Program for the 2026 season!
Throughout the year, Wilson's Creek presents a variety of programming to the public demonstrating the types of weapons used in the Civil War, including at the Battle of Wilson's Creek. Artillery demonstrations begin Memorial Day weekend and occur every other weekend throughout the summer, and also include special events, such as anniversaries. Historic Weapons Volunteers will learn how to handle and fire black powder weapons (including 19th century rifles and/or cannons), provide informal interpretation to a variety of audiences, and gain a broader perspective on the Civil War through the participation in living history programming.
Applicants are required to be at least 16 years of age and must attend the appropriate historic weapons training every year before participating in live demonstrations. Equipment, such as weapons and clothing, will be provided by the park.
