Fall 2026, Visitor Center/Interpretation Volunteer

*Candidates must have a motorhome to be considered for the position! Housing is provided in the form of a free RV site with full-hookups (water, sewer, power)*

Furnace Creek Visitor Center:

The Furnace Creek Visitor Center is located on the valley floor in the Furnace Creek area of Death Valley National Park. Furnace Creek is considered the main hub of the park, due to its proximity to popular viewpoints, hiking locations, and amenities. The visitor center is a great place for visitors to start their Death Valley trip. Visitors can pay for their entrance fee or purchase a national park pass here, obtain maps and information, purchase souvenirs, and can explore the park museum. There is an auditorium that plays the park film on a 30-minute loop.

Position Overview:

Visitor Center Volunteers are expected to greet visitors, provide general park information, and answer phone calls and email inquiries. Promoting visitor safety, resource protection, and providing informal interpretation by roving to popular locations are also required of the position. Formal interpretive programming is *optional*, depending on the volunteer's skills and previous experience. Volunteers are expected to wear the National Park Service Volunteer-in-Parks uniform which is provided by the park. This position directly supports daily operations of the park, including interpretation and resource management objectives. Volunteers can expect to interact with a diversity of park visitors, including school age children, non-English speaking visitors, and senior citizens. Volunteers will be expected to support the National Park Service mission and maintain a professional and friendly demeanor when interacting with the public. A valid Driver's License and clean driving record is REQUIRED for driving government vehicles. A federal background investigation and security clearance is REQUIRED for operating DOI/NPS computers and network. A detailed Service Description can be provided upon request.

Training:

Volunteer will be trained by the supervisor and other Death Valley Interpretation staff depending on prior NPS experience. Candidates who are new to the National Park Service may receive up to two weeks of training. Some online training webinars and workshops may be provided for required and supplemental learning. 

Compensation:

Candidates must have a fully contained motorhome to be considered for the position. Free full hookup campsite in the park village is provided at no cost to the volunteer. Access to laundry facility, gym, and employee pool is also available. Volunteers who work an excess of 250 hours earn a free Volunteer "America the Beautiful" annual pass.
