The Hat Creek Ranger District Visitor Services Team is looking for a motivated person with landscaping and maintenance skills, to help us with the Old Station Visitor Center and Discovery Garden. The visitor center and garden, is a spectacular place to spend your time.  


Discovery Garden has strolling gravel walkways that take you from planting bed to panting bed. The garden has focused on native plants but you will find a few of your favorites, intermingled in the beds. The garden includes a lawn area, a rock fountain and mature trees.


The visitor center is an A-frame building with a large wraparound deck, a restroom, picnic tables and a paved parking lot. The grounds are beautiful and are well used by forest visitors in the spring, summer and fall months.  The grounds keeping tasks run from April to November for approximately 30 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Housing is a full hook-up RV pad.


Landscaping & Maintenance duties include:

§ Garden care and cleanup:

o  Pine needle removal

o  Replanting or thinning, as needed

o  Raking-Sweeping-Shoveling

o  Garden Watering (most on soaker hoses and timers)

o  Weed removal

o  Lawn mowing

§ Landscape Planning

§ Painting

§ Deck Maintenance

§ Light- moderate carpentry-sign building, bulletin board building, fence building

§ Campfire permits

§ Public questions

§ Other duties as assigned


The successful candidate will need the following qualifications & physical requirements:

§ Valid state driver’s license

§ Work both indoors and outdoors in various conditions

§ Ability to sustain strenuous physical activities

§ Lift, carry and place items up to 25-40 lbs

§ Maintenance Skills: Plumbing, Electrical and Carpentry

§ Green Thumb

§ Pleasant disposition
