Park Photographer

Main Goals:

The park photographer will play a valuable role in capturing an important year at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. FIFA World Cup, Klondike’s 50^th anniversary, and America’s 250^th are all occurring this summer. The park photographer will capture KLSE’s events and programs, with an emphasis on highlighting work done by volunteers. The images captured will be useful in volunteer recognition, community engagement, and developing future programs. This role offers hands-on experience with professional photography equipment and techniques while contributing to the park’s visual media collection. This volunteer opportunity is ideal for someone with photography experience who is passionate about national parks, storytelling, and visual communication.

Description of Duties:

• Attend and photograph park events and programs, including but not limited to:
  • Trail to Treasure Walking Tour
  • Ranger’s Choice Programs
  • Tabling in Occidental Square and local community events
  • KLSE’s 50^th Anniversary celebration
• Photograph day-to-day operations of visitor center volunteers and park rangers.
• Photograph important cultural and historic elements that highlight the park’s history and significance.
• Engage with visitors about their park experience and photograph with their permission. 
• Work with park staff to understand specific photography needs and priorities.
• Edit and enhance photos to ensure high quality, professional images. 
• Organize and store photos.
• Provide photos for park’s website, social media, brochures, and other outreach materials.

Working Environment and Safety Considerations:

• Outdoor duties may be performed in varying weather conditions, such as sun and heat, rain, wind, and cold.
• Indoor duties will be performed in a climate-controlled environment.
• Walking and working on uneven or slippery terrain, such as uneven sidewalks.
• Carrying photography equipment for prolonged periods.
• Interacting with large crowds during events.

Additional Items:

• The volunteer must already have photography skills and experience and will not receive photography training. Basic park training is provided.
• The volunteer may travel locally to offsite outreach events.
• Volunteers must wear KLSE provided uniform shirt and jacket. Shoes and pants are supplied by the volunteer. Pants must be full length, clean, not torn and brown or khaki in color. No jeans or shorts may be worn at the desk. Shoes are required to be closed toed. Volunteers are not permitted to wear any external buttons, pins, or other decorative items on volunteer uniform.
• The volunteer will be subject to performance reviews to ensure that goals are being accomplished and that the job is still rewarding for the volunteer.
