Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument is seeking dedicated virtual/remote volunteers to transcribe historical written archives that are a part of the park’s collection.
Volunteers play a pivotal role in unlocking history, by transcribing historical documents into a more accessible and searchable format. Additionally, volunteers make it easier for scholars, genealogists and curious history buffs to find and read the documents.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy history, can read cursive and historical documents, and have access to a computer and internet. The scans that volunteers will be transcribing will be uploaded to two private projects on FromThePage.
FromThePage is software for transcribing documents and collaborating on texts with others. The platform allows volunteers to see an image of a page and to transcribe the text from that page. Volunteers will be required to have an account through FromThePage to access the projects, but signing up is free for volunteers.
This position is set to start in December 2026 and continue to September 30th, 2027. We are looking for individuals who can commit to a 6-month minimum, and volunteer at least 5 hours per month.
Applicants that are selected will be required to attend one of two mandatory virtual trainings. One to be hosted on December 13th and the other will be on December 15th. Time of training TBD, between the hours of 9 am to 2 pm MST. An email with updated details about the meetings and times will be sent to selected applicants.
