Lands End Interpretive Volunteer

At the northwestern edge of San Francisco, Land’s End is a place where dramatic coastal scenery meets layered history. Trails wind through cypress groves and along rugged bluffs, offering sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Golden Gate Bridge. Traces of the past remain, from shipwrecks along the shoreline to historic landmarks that reflect the city’s evolution. 

Among these is the Sutro Baths, the ruins of a grand 19th-century bathhouse and leisure complex built by Adolph Sutro. Once a popular destination for recreators, it now stands as a reminder of San Francisco’s cultural and recreational history. As part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Land’s End continues to be shaped by current preservation and restoration efforts. Interpretation Volunteers help visitors connect with the site’s stories through sharing knowledge, answering questions, and creating welcoming, engaging experiences that support the National Park Service mission.  

Duties 

• Staff the Land’s End Lookout Visitor Center, providing accurate and friendly information
• Rove trails in the area to engage visitors and share insights on the park’s history and ecology
• Support site operations, including maintaining exhibits and restocking publications
• Research and interpret the park’s cultural and natural resources
• Use interpretive techniques to foster meaningful visitor connections
• Assist with special events and projects as needed
• Track visitor interactions during each shift
• Participate in trainings to stay current on park resources and interpretive practices
