Position Overview

We are currently seeking summer and fall volunteers.

Visitor Services Assistants are the welcoming face of Melrose Mansion. Volunteers greet visitors, answer questions, process reservations, and support daily visitor operations. This position is focused on front desk and visitor center operations and does not involve leading guided tours. Volunteers play an important role in ensuring every guest has a positive experience while learning about the park’s history and programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greet and orient visitors to Melrose Mansion
  • Answer questions in person and by phone, and provide directions and information
  • Process tour reservations and issue tickets
  • Handle cash and credit transactions accurately for Eastern National sales
  • Restock brochures and visitor information materials
  • Maintain records of daily attendance
  • Notify staff of maintenance or safety concerns as needed

Dates & Commitment

  • RV Site Volunteers: Commit to a minimum of 3 months and maximum of 6 months
    • Individuals: 32 hours per week
    • Couples: 24 hours per person per week
  • Local Volunteers: Minimum of 2 days per month
  • Weekend and holiday availability preferred

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to remain professional and welcoming when assisting large numbers of visitors
  • Comfortable using computers, point-of-sale, and ticketing systems (training provided)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and represent the National Park Service professionally

Uniform & Housing

  • Volunteers will receive a VIP uniform shirt, hat, jacket, and badge; volunteers provide pants, belt, and closed-toe shoes
  • On-site RV pads with hookups may be available (requires minimum 3-month commitment)
