Opportunity Description:

For 35 years, Angelenos have come together to care for the Los Angeles River through the Great LA River CleanUp. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into the one of the largest urban river cleanups in the country, powered by thousands of volunteers each year. In 2026, CleanUp will span four sites across two weekends, giving everyone a chance to pitch in. Each site is a living part of the River’s ecosystem and picking up trash there helps to restore habitat, improve water quality, and protect local wildlife that depend on the River.

One of the CleanUps on October 10th will take place from 9:00-11:00am along the LA River. Steelhead Park sits alongside a rare soft-bottom stretch of the River, flowing right next to one of LA's most beloved green spaces. Here, cottonwoods and sycamores provide shade along the banks, and the soft-bottom channel supports willows and birdlife that thrive in the middle of the city.

Please note: River island access at Steelhead Park may be limited at the time of our cleanup. Because of this, our efforts at this site will be focused on removing smaller pieces of trash like plastic and cigarette butts, rather than larger debris.

Registration process:

Please sign up for free through FoLAR's website at: https://support.folar.org/event/the-great-river-cleanup-2026-steelhead-park/e840894. In the meantime, if you have questions, please contact FoLAR at contact@folar.org.

Directions:

Steelhead Park has very limited street parking. Out of respect for our neighbors in Frogtown, we encourage ride sharing, carpooling, biking, or taking Metro if you can. It's an east way to cut down on traffic, save some space, and keep The Great LA River CleanUp a little greener.
