Orchard Care Volunteer

Gettysburg National Military Park is currently looking for volunteers to help us support the Resources Stewardship and Protection division in its goal to stabilize, preserve, and maintain in good condition historic orchards that contribute to the significance of the park.

We are looking for volunteers to help us maintain the historic orchards here in the park by performing such tasks as perform regular maintenance of fruit trees including pruning, deadwood removal, fruit thinning, reporting large dead or fallen limbs, or trees to the park Ecologist, and assisting with occasional tree stabilization. The park will provide all tools, safety gear and training to successfully complete their volunteer activities.

This position will require the volunteer to be able to stand or walk for up to an hour, walk over uneven terrain, bend and lift, carry up to 25 pounds, as well as working in a group. The position will be outside in the park so the volunteer will be expected to work in a range of weather conditions with temperatures varying from 30F to 90F. The volunteer will be working in areas that may include stinging insects.

Volunteer work days are available Mondays through Fridays.
