The volunteer will serve as an ambassador for the park by actively engaging with the public on the beach to enhance their understanding of seals, the marine environment, and encouraging a safe viewing experience. Being a volunteer presence, Seal Education Team volunteers serve to educate the public to prevent harassment (even accidental) of wildlife. The volunteer will also be expected to:

  • Travel to a specified beach where seals are actively hauling out and engage with the public about seal biology and natural history.
  • Engage with the public on stewardship messaging and best practices for safe wildlife viewing.
  • Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and interacting with visitors in a professional manner.
  • Walk on sandy, uneven terrain to haul out locations. Standing and walking for periods of 4 hours per shift.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions from NPS staff.
