Oxon Cove Park Trail Ambassador

Ever wanted to care for your own little slice of nature? You can do just that as a Trail Ambassador at Oxon Cove Park!

You'll have the opportunity to monitor a chosen portion of the Hiker-Biker trail, stretching from Oxon Hill Farm along Oxon Cove to Forest Heights and along Oxon Creek, as a representative of the National Park Service. Your primary duties involve maintaining the trail, collecting data, and reporting updates to NPS staff, but you could also:

• Trim overgrown vegetation and branches.
• Record statistics and send reports to NPS staff
  • Number of people, fallen trees, trail maintenance issues, etc.
• Call US Park Police to report dangerous or potentially dangerous scenarios.
• Remove and bag litter.
• Assist visitors.
• Participate in trail maintenance projects planned and coordinated by NPS.
• Remove invasive species (requires additional training).

The Trail Ambassador position is a very active, outdoors-focused role, so be ready to:

• Stand, walk, or ride a bike for moderate to long periods of time.
• Follow safety guidelines and use necessary protective equipment.
• Safely operate tools when required.
• Work with others and follow directions.
• Volunteer independently.

Key qualifications for this position include:

• Some trail maintenance skills and knowledge.
• Walk or bike your trail section at least once a month (more often if possible).
• Wear a volunteer hat and safety vest while volunteering.
• Must participate in volunteer orientation and training before starting work.

Volunteers will receive guidance from Lisa Berray (NPS Staff), and all supplies will be provided. Use of personal bikes is allowed, but please know that no reimbursements are authorized.
