Running the Colorado River through Grand Canyon is a sought-after and legendary experience. The primary duty of this position is to assist and educate boaters launching on river trips in the Grand Canyon. Almost every day, at least one noncommercial river trip launches from Lees Ferry.

Volunteers are expected to provide a welcoming and friendly presence on the boat ramp. Rangers and volunteers work with boaters and outfitters to ensure that each noncommercial river trip has the required equipment to safely boat the Grand Canyon, in a way that will minimize environmental damage.

The Lees Ferry team goal is to work together with the river community to promote and inspire stewardship of the resource on the river. Additionally, the team encourages boaters of all kinds and backgrounds to be courteous to each other, manage risk well, be mindful of tribal affairs, and for each group to be a helpful and kind presence during their time in Grand Canyon.

There are opportunities for volunteers who are experienced to patrol the Marble Canyon area by foot, bicycle, and boat. For further details, reach out to the position contact. We are particularly seeking candidates with river experience and Grand Canyon backcountry experience.
