Camp Host - Foresthill, CA

The American River Ranger District in Foresthill, CA is looking for a handful of volunteers to be camp hosts at different locations on the Tahoe National Forest. A camp host does a variety of different tasks:

Clean restroom facilities

Interact, help, and answer questions from the public

Update daily reservations cards for sites

Communicate with Forest Service staff about campground operations and of concerns

Ensure campsites are clean for the next reservations

Pick up litter and micro trash around the campground

Educate the public on campground rules and wildlife safety

Utilize a golf cart for duties throughout the campground

Raking and or leaf blowing around sites

May use basic hand/power tools for minor carpentry needs

Cleans out BBQ grills and established fire rings

Can help Forest Service staff with other project work

Camp Host locations we are looking to fill for the summer of 2026 are:

·        Lewis Campground in French Meadows Complex which is roughly 40 miles from the closet town Foresthill, CA

·        Giant Gap at the Sugarpine Campground which is roughly 19 miles from Foresthill, CA

·        North Fork Campground in Emigrant Gap which is roughly 35 miles from Truckee.

These locations do not have cell service or electricity. Starlink may be available at Lewis/French Meadows. Having an RV, Camper, or Sleeper Van is preferred. Hook ups are available only for septic and water. Generator and solar panels maybe provided. Hosts with tents are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Camp hosts are reimbursed 40 dollars per day up to 5 days per week Thursday- Monday and expected to work holidays. Volunteers will receive 2 days off per week and are expected to volunteer at least 4 hours per day 5 days per week. Time commitment is from May – October (may vary). Minimum time commitment is 2 months.
