Volunteers must be 21 years or older. The volunteer shall furnish a factory-built, “self-contained” recreational vehicle (RV) of the travel trailer or motor home type to serve as temporary living quarters. The unit shall be equipped with electrical hookup not to exceed 50 AMP’s and shall be at least 18 feet in length. Volunteers are required to work at least 25 hours per week, be physically and mentally capable of performing volunteer tasks, capable of talking to the public a plus, experience assisting visitors a plus. All applicants must pass a federal background check.
Volunteer Camp Host duties on working days are to answer the phone, open/close campground gates, check in/out campers, patrol the campground, and report any issues to the Ranger Staff. Must have basic computer skills working with a PC.
A full hook-up site will be provided in return for services rendered. Fort Gaines, GA and Eufaula, AL are the closest cities to the campground, within 1/2 hour. Must work and communicate well with others, and also be flexible, patient, and ability to follow instructions. Only 2-person teams accepted.
Basic computer skills, communication skills, teamwork skills, flexibility, and patience. We will train on the Recreation.gov platform for checking in/out campers.
Work independently from USACE Staff mostly but with patrolling Ranger Staff in campgrounds, indoors atmosphere with climate control and restroom, and working with other Camp Hosts. Most visitors to the campgrounds are laid back. However, sometimes there's the opportunity for more challenging visitors that may require the assistance of Ranger Staff.
