Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge [AMNWR] is the largest remaining oasis in the Mojave Desert with over 50 springs and seeps. It is an internationally recognized site for the conservation of 26 endemic plant and animal species. AMNWR is managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. We are seeking dedicated volunteers—either single or a couple—who enjoy hands-on work and collaborating as part of a team to support road and facility maintenance at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. As a maintenance volunteer, you will work directly with the Refuge Manager and a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Maintenance Mechanic to address a variety of essential projects that help keep the refuge safe, functional, and welcoming for visitors.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Assisting with road maintenance such as grading and repairing problem areas.
• Helping repair damaged exhibits, signs, and building components as skills allow.
• Conducting vehicle maintenance tasks.
• Contributing to boardwalk maintenance and repair.
• Clearing vegetation from boardwalks, roads, and other access areas.
  • Assisting staff with facility operations, including cleaning bathrooms and emptying trash receptacles

This position is ideal for volunteers who enjoy problem-solving, working outdoors, and being part of a supportive team that keeps refuge facilities in good working order for both wildlife and the public.

Schedule is typically 4 days on and 3 days off. Day-to-day schedule varies. Hours requirements 32-40 hours/week. Exact start and end dates negotiable.
