Adams National Historical Park (NHP) hosts a wide range of public events throughout the year that highlight the enduring legacy of the Adams family and their contributions to American democracy. Special events this year will include Remember the Ladies 250, Independence 250 and News of the Declaration of Independence along with community events like Quincy Open Heritage Day. The park also actively participates in outreach programs that connect the public to the themes of civic service, American independence, and historic preservation.

Volunteers on Adams NHP’s 250 Commemoration Events Team help create meaningful visitor experiences by supporting event operations and building connections between the public and the park. This year, we are especially seeking volunteers to support high-profile events commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, including:

  • Remember the Ladies 250
  • Battle of Bunker Hill Commemoration
  • Quincy Flag Day Parade
  • Independence 250
  • End of the Revolutionary Era: The Passing of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson
  • News of the Declaration of Independence
  • Quincy Open Heritage Day

Additional opportunities may include supporting outreach booths and programs at community festivals and partner events.

How it works:

Successful applicants will be added to the list of eligible event volunteers. Volunteers will be notified via email about upcoming event opportunities at least a month prior to the event and are asked to respond with their availability.

  • Preparing materials and supplies ahead of events
  • Assisting with setup and takedown on event days
  • Welcoming and orienting visitors
  • Supervising activities and providing wayfinding support
  • Supporting historic demonstrations and interpretive programming
  • Representing the National Park Service in parades and public ceremonies
  • Offering professional, engaging visitor service on behalf of Adams NHP

Requirements:

Volunteers are encouraged to commit to at least two special event shifts per year. Shifts typically range from 4 to 8 hours and may involve indoor or outdoor responsibilities.

Locations May Include:

  • Adams Farm at Penn's Hill (John Adams and John Quincy Adams Birthplaces)
  • Peace field (Old House and Carriage House)
  • Adams NHP Visitor Center
  • Community event locations throughout Quincy, MA

Whether you’re comfortable being active in the outdoors or prefer an air-conditioned setting, we have roles to match your interests and availability.
